GALLUP – Hugh Wiley Gallup, widow of Bernice LeGeyt Gallup, passed away on July 9, 2012, at Sheriden Woods Health Care Center in Bristol, formerly of Washington Hill, Barkhamsted. Born on November 17, 1917 to Hubert and Josephine Hebert Gallup in Centreville, New Brunswick, CA. One of 10 children, he outlived all of his siblings. Hugh built the house on Washington Hill that the family grew up in. The Gallups had taken care of foster children from the Child and Family services for many years in Barkhamsted. He worked for Olivetti Underwood for many years, and retired from Seth Thomas Clock Manufacturers. Hugh is survived by his four children and their spouses, Judith Gallup and Jack Pechaski of Ryegate, VT, Raymond and Clara Gallup of Cabot, Arkansas, Robert Gallup and Karen Shimko of New Milford, and David Gallup and William Salvatore of Bristol; two grandsons, Joseph H. Gallup of Cabot, Arkansas and David Michael Pechaski of Warren, CT. Hugh was predeceased by his wife and grandson, William John Pechaski, III. Hugh was a member of the Washington Hill United Methodist Church, and the Barkhamsted Senior Citizens. The family will receive friends at the home of David Gallup in Bristol, Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 2 – 8 PM. The family would like to thank the staff at Sheriden Woods Health Care Center for their compassion and attention to our father while he was in their care over the last 5 years. Montano-Shea Funeral Home, 5 Steele Road, New Hartford has care of the arrangements.
