BARKHAMSTED
HO - Dr. Rene Dao Minh Ho, 71, of 7 Horseshoe Drive, died early Saturday morning at his home with his devoted wife, Jessica Nguyen Ho, and their son, James with him.
Born on April 8, 1936, in Saigon, Vietnam, Dr. Ho was the son of Nguyen Thi Chuc and Ho Van Hien. He received his medical degree from the University of Saigon Medical School and was a specialist in diseases of the ear, nose, and throat.
He practiced in Saigon until the Vietnam War, when he joined the Medical-Military branch of the South Vietnam Armed Forces and held the rank of captain. Captured by the North Vietnamese, Dr. Ho spent three years as a prisoner of war and was released shortly before the war ended. After the war, he continued his medical practice until moving in 1990 to the United States.
Dr. Ho was accomplished in many areas and was fluent in French, English, Chinese, Spanish, German, Russian, and English. A stroke forced him into retirement and he suffered many medical complications for five years until his death.
Besides his wife and son, he is survived by a sister, Simone Phan of Santa Rosa, CA, and a brother, Pierre Hien Ho of Paris, France. He is also leaves his parents-in-law, Nguyen Thi Thuan and Nguyen Van Phu of Saigon. He was predeceased by several sisters and brothers, including John M. Ho of New Hartford and Dr. Ho Trung Dung of Plainville.
