I worked for Al for 10 yrs..he was my manager, mentor and 2nd father for most of that time. Although we haven't seen each other in some time (something I regret) he comes up often whenever we recollect on our childhood and early adulthood at the BX Zoo. He will truly be missed and in many associates hearts as he touched us in many ways. I would like to think that in part he contributed to my current career..as I'm sure is the case for many others. God Bless..

Susan, you may remember I met Al briefly when my friend Rob and I stayed with you during our "Excellent Baseball Adventure" in September of 1989. You and Al were working at the Bronx Zoo and dating under the radar. We were nearly broke and Al set us up with some sweet tickets for a Yankees game. I don't remember much about the game but I've always remembered Al's generosity and what struck me as genuine enthusiasm for life. I was never able to return his favor but I will remember Al by "forwarding" his favor whenever possible to anyone who attempts to embrace life in the way I sense that he did. My sincere condolences to you and the girls.

My heartfelt condolence to Susan and the girls. I had the pleasure of working with Al throughout his career at the Bronx Zoo. I watched him learn and hone his many skills and long admired his gentleness in handling both those he supervised and zoo guests.
I was elated when his values were recognized by Stew Leonard and that his career blossomed there.
His loss will continue to be painful for you but you will always be able to cherish your memories of him. In that way, he will always be with you.

A gentleman, a kind man, a hard worker, a good friend; to be known for just a few of those characteristics would make many men happy with their time on earth. Al, you were all that and much, much more.
May God Bless your family in this tragic time and may they take comfort knowing the love and friendship you showed me and so many others.

Susan, Mario and Family,

Al really was a nice guy. It was truly a pleasure
growing up with him at the Bronx Zoo. We were
both so young and watching him clime that ladder of
success, fall in love and become the admired and
respected man he became. I can hear him singing
those oldies now.

Sue, Sophie, and Madie,
I am so deeply sorry for your loss. I can't express how much I hurt for you. Al was truly a great man. With every step he exuded a passion for life and love. In him, I have found one of the many building blocks for becoming a genuinely great person. I am sorry that I will not be able to make the service. Please know, you all are in my thoughts, and if you need anything I am here.
Love,
Jimmy

It's with my deepest sympathy that I am writing this. Al was not only an inspiration, a leader, a confidant, a teacher, a role model, a gentleman, and father figure but most of all he was a friend to me. Al put me on the right path and helped me stay there. He taught me how to be a professional and how to work with people. We both had a fondness for math and the Yanks. I will miss my Italian Father and will cherrish our time together for the rest of my time here on earth. God bless the family and I am here for you guys if ever you need me. I love you Al....Rest in Peace!!

I will for sure miss that smile. Al was a great guy, May the Lord rest his soul. I am sure he is in heaven with his Mother.

Dear Sue, Sophie and Maddie,
I hope you are all ok. When Ann called with the terrible news I was shocked and saddened. Al was very kind and loving to Justin and Reed in the time he spent with them. He had such a strong presence and touched many people in his life. He will be missed. With love, Sarah

It sounds cliche, but Al really was the NICEST GUY. Nobody in the five years I worked with him ever had anything bad to say about Al, and Al never said a bad thing about anyone else. That's so admirable and rare. He was a hard working man who loved his family, baseball and had a wicked sweet tooth. I will miss him coming into lunch everyday with a song in his heart, humming a tune. Al, You always said YES to dessert and enjoyed it with a big smile on your face and a chuckle or two when we passed you a cupcake after lunch. We keep waiting for you to join us at lunch every day - to come around the corner humming your tune. God bless you. Our little gang at work will never be the same without you.

Al:

I never got a chance to be the friend to you that you were to me. When I was young you were always there for me; providing guidance and advice, even though you were only a few years older. My work at the Zoo shaped my life. Thanks for being my first mentor and providing me with the strong work ethic that I have today.

My deepest condolonces to your family. God bless all of you.
